Katie Brown
Solicitor - Partner
SRA ID: 433422
Having joined TV Edwards in 2013, Katie now heads up the Social Welfare department jointly with Senior Partner, Jacky Starling. An experienced housing and public law solicitor, Katie represents clients across a range of housing law. In possession work, Katie represents clients facing eviction for rent arrears, anti-social behaviour, sub-letting, breach of tenancy, and under the “section 21 notice” procedure. Within those cases, Katie helps tenants avoid eviction by bringing counterclaims for poor housing conditions, harassment and breach of tenancy deposit rules. In a recent case, Katie acted for a homeowner who was found by the High Court to have been evicted in breach of a breathing space. It was only the second time that the Court had considered the debt respite scheme, which brought in breathing spaces in May 2021. Katie’s background training in welfare benefits law means she can provide effective representation to clients facing eviction for rent arrears caused by benefits issues. In many of her possession cases Katie uses her benefits knowledge to help clients resolve their Housing Benefit or Universal Credit issues and obtain substantial backdated benefit to reduce their rent arrears.

Katie Elizabeth Brown more interested in money
Despite being allocated to me by the Official Solicitor, which she was supposed to do in my best interest, she was more concerned with making money, and lots of it.
Despite being eligible for full legal aid, she stated I would not qualify, so did not even apply.
She worked against my interests and not to the best. She should not be a solicitor and if that is the calibre of people who work for TV Edwards, stay away from them. In total she stole over £8000 off of me. If I could I would post the letters from her, as they would show her as what she is. I also have telephone recording of her.
The following proves she does not like legal aid, so will not use it. This is what she posted on the Legal Action Group
They showed that high levels of debt from education combined with low salaries in the legal aid sector made the work unattractive and unsustainable for lawyers from a lower socio-economic background. The survey also found that the prevalence of unpaid work experience was creating a barrier to social mobility
The inescapable conclusion was that, without reform, there will be fewer lawyers willing to work in legal aid in future, and less diversity in the sector.
A recent survey carried out by the Junior Lawyers Division of the Law Society has reinforced these concerns with only four per cent of respondents to the survey either working in legal aid or interested in working in the sector in future.

Quite simply astounding
Katie Brown and her team at the Whitechapel branch of TV Edwards are quite simply astounding. She's tenacious, brilliant and has a deep understanding of the law. More than that, her calm demeanour and excellent client skills were exactly what I needed under the fire of fierce litigation. Thanks to her and her team, we achieved a result that was not only a win for me but for the thousands of people who will now be protected by case law. She is a superb solicitor to have on your side and an excellent person to know.
