Poor handling of legal aid case
I had a very upsetting experience with Jonathan Starr in connection with a homelessness prevention case. I was initially assigned a trainee who was unprofessional and spoke down to me. When I requested to speak with someone else, I was referred to Mr. Starr, who introduced himself as the supervisor.
Rather than listening to my concerns or letting me explain, he interrupted me, spoke in a condescending tone, and wrongly insisted that I could have found his contact number in the trainee’s emails — when there was no number included. When I pointed this out, instead of acknowledging it, he abruptly changed the subject and continued to speak down to me.
Most concerningly, he implied that if I left a bad review, he would claim I had refused to provide documentation, which is entirely untrue and felt like a threat.
I approached this service for help during a difficult and vulnerable time. I expected professional support and basic respect. Unfortunately, I was made to feel small, blamed, and silenced instead.
