Will review

Jude went to great detail in explaining the options for wills, ensuring we made the right decisions for our situation. She made sure we understood all of the will wording as it can be complex. She explains things in a very clear and concise way. We are very happy with the wills that are in place.

Competence and integrity. Realistic advice. No fuss.

I don't often bother with writing reviews but it can be hard to find trusty legal support. I hope this honest acknowledgement of good service and a fair outcome is useful.

Firstly, don't be fooled by the modest location of this practice. Our solicitor, Ben Stubbins, listened patiently to our needs whenever required and fought our corner professionally and without over-complicating matters.

Even though events were challenging and, at times, beyond our control, I felt we were supported with integrity throughout. Ultimately we achieved a desired outcome although it was anything but straightforward and we are very grateful for steering us through the process.

If you seek a polite, no-fuss attitude with profession graft and integrity then this is a good place to start.

Reconstitution of house deeds and sale of same property

We were recommended to Shackocks by another solicitor in Mansfield who could not, due to workload, take the case on. At our first meeting in August 2024 we were told "don’t be surprised if we are still in contact at the end of the year" Between August and November very little, if anything happened. Communication was virtually nil, we felt our case was just being left to one side. Then in November 2024, the application to Land Registry for new deeds went through remarkably quickly for a Government dept., around 10 working days. What happened between August and November we will never know for sure! Then more delays, even though we had a buyer keen to complete, the case dragged on until final completion at the end of February 2025. The delays cost the Executors nearly £4000. And finally Shacklocks held on the money from the property sale for a month, even though they had been told that an Executor account was not legally required but the account set up could be accessed by all executors. As a final insult, their accounts department said no interest would be paid on the money held as the interest due was only £1.11 and anything below £60 would not be paid. It was pointed out that anyone could find an account that would have paid over £200 in interest but in the end Shacklocks paid out interest of around £135 using 1.7% as an interest rate.
So would I recommend Shacklocks, NO.? It’s got one star because of a helpful receptionist.

Conveyancing review

We have just completed the sale of my mum’s property through Shacklocks. Christalla was great at keeping us informed and chasing progress and she was always at the end of the phone if I had any questions. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Christalla to anyone needing this service.

Sale of previously rented terraced house in Ilkeston Derbyshire

Selling an ex-tenanted terraced house can be tricky, particularly if it's one that is pretty old and quirky! This one had a collection of 'out houses' that presented a few issues. William gave us sound advice and responded professionally to the purchaser's questions. The issue didn't prevent a sale because we feel it was dealt with professionally, swiftly and competently by our knowledgeable solicitor William. We'd always be happy to recommend him.
