I cannot recommend Rosemary and her team highly enough. In what is always an emotionally charged environment, when it comes to families and children, they helped me navigate and win the case and did so professionally, but equally with a personal and emotionally intelligent way. Karen Edwards was great from the first chat we had, during the 4 month process Karen always kept me full updated and explained matters in non-solicitor speak to help me make informed and correct decisions. Shelley from Frettens was professional and easy to work with throughout the process. However, it’s important to be aware that if your sale or purchase falls through—even at the last minute—they will still charge 75% of their fee.

I was disappointed when our initial sale collapsed just before the exchange of contracts, but it was even more of a shock to find we were still liable for a substantial fee, plus full fee was charged for the second sale. Just a word of warning: make sure you read the small print in their terms and conditions carefully.

Dear James Thank you for your feedback. It is good to hear you were happy with the service from Shelley and thank you for your positive feedback offline throughout what was a lengthy process. Regarding your abortive fees, it is misleading to suggest that our fee is ‘hidden in the small print’. We made it clear that we do not operate on a ‘no sale no fee’ basis, both when you instructed us and when your first buyer pulled out at the end of last year. We even agreed to defer the payment of those fees, at your request, until your sale and purchase was completed and offered a reduction on your subsequent fee. You went ahead based on those fees, then requested a further reduction upon exchange of contracts three months or more later. Abortive fees are extremely commonplace in conveyancing. Shelley had completed weeks of work getting you to point of exchange, only for your buyer to withdraw at the last moment. She then had to carry out that work all over again with a new buyer. This is frustrating for all parties involved at an emotional time. We wish you all the best in your new home.

Be cautious when using this conveyancing law firm and ensure you read the terms and conditions thoroughly. If a sale or purchase falls through at the last minute, they will charge 75% of their fee for any abortive transaction and 100% on any subsequent sale or purchase.

In contrast, my experience with Dixon Stewart has been far more reasonable. I’ve used them for previous sales and purchases, and in situations where transactions have fallen through, they have not imposed unexpected or excessive charges.

Based on my experience, I would recommend Dixon Stewart for a more transparent and fair conveyancing service.

I recently sold and purchased a property and instructed Frettens as my conveyencers.
My experience was seamless, fast and friendly from start to finish.

Natalie, Jade and the team were super helpful and put up with my often silly questions and were always happy to explain things to us.
