Employing a solicitor to process a will should relieve stress and be efficient. Sadly my experience has been the opposite. My dissatisfaction has many elements, the headlines including:
A frequent lack of communication unless prompted by myself.
Final charges amounting to nearly £10 000 more than Alletsons’ original estimate, apparently because the estate was more complex than anticipated, but felt unjustified and more due to solicitor inefficiencies. Costs were being charged with no transparency for a long period.
Excessive time period of 3 years, original estimate was 8-12 months. It took over a year for the accountant Alletsons appointed, without consultation, to settle a relatively small amount of tax due on interest earned whilst some of the monetised estate awaited distribution.
Mistakenly cc’ing an email with unprofessional & rude comments about client.
Poor choice of wording in a sensitive communication, which could have negatively escalated a situation.
