Probate Grant and new will required.
I've just posted my experience of Thornton Jones Solicitors in another review so please accept this copy rather than me starting over.
Sadly my wonderful wife of 48 years passed away in March this year 2025. The bank required probate grant in order to close and transfer funds so I needed a very reliable solicitor but not in Huddersfield Town center where car drivers are unwelcome.
Browsing the Internet Thornton Jones solicitors in Ossett looked ideal; not far away and easy access with a cheap car park a minutes walk away from the office.
I contacted Thornton Jones and an appointment was quickly made with Yasmin Walker. The meeting was a tearful time for me but Yasmin was incredibly kind and supportive taking me slowly step by step explaining in great detail what was involved regarding probate grant; so many questions were asked and lots of form filling by Yasmin.
Yasmin is a very friendly and empathic lady who is so very professional, I couldn't have selected a better solicitor and I was so pleased to get probate grant under way. I expected a long wait but I was amazed by how rapid Yasmin was in obtaining the probate grant; Yasmin had sent me draft copy of the paperwork involved with costs involved which I fully accepted. Yasmin had explained these days probate grant application is now done electronically greatly speeding up the process but I was still amazed by how fast Yasmin worked.
I can't praise or recommend Yasmin high enough and being so impressed I got to know both Yasmin and her friendly receptionist Ellie a lot more because I wanted a new will drawing up.
I thought my will would be a simple one being totally on my own without dependants but it quickly became extremely complicated due to legalities involved including possible inheritance tax when I pass away; emails; phone calls from Ellie and more meetings with Yasmin followed as we went through the process. All during this Yasmin explained everything in simple terms for me to understand; costs to me were clearly explained including a special document I requested in order to prevent certain third parties contesting my will which increased the cost quite a bit; but well worth it for my peace of mind.
The cost involved for both probate grant; my will and the special document was expensive but I think possibly average for this kind of work by any solicitor; it was well worth it knowing everything was done so professionally and with urgency not dragging on.
Yesterday 27th June I again visited Yasmin to sign and have witnessed my will closing this chapter in my life. I asked Yasmin if Thornton Jones could sort out my obligations regarding the income tax office; Yasmin highly recommended a lady chartered accountant whom I'm looking forward to meeting in the near future.
I've gone on at length because I'm absolutely delighted with both Yasmin and Ellie who looked after me so well during this darkest period of my life; thank you both so much and if ever I need a solicitor in future Thornton Jones will be my choice.
Kindest regards, Colin.
